Old Town Marina, built in the Hellenistic Period, is a natural harbor in the shape of a semicircle. The entrance of the harbor is 110 meters wide. It is assumed that the breakwaters were probably built on the remains of the walls built in the Hellenistic Period. In the past, there were two bastions on either side of the harbor entrance, one of which is believed to have functioned as a lighthouse. In 1472, the Papal Navy planted the Papal Coat of Arms on the bastions of the breakwaters and took the chain stretched between the bastions as booty to ensure the security of the city.
Today, Old Town Marina is one of the most important sightseeing stops in the city. The harbor, which is always busy with sea traffic, is about 6-7 meters deep and has the capacity to moor a hundred boats.
The vessels in the harbor, where commercial tour boats are usually moored, are tied to the harbor with vaults instead of the anchoring method used in other Mediterranean and Aegean ports. The harbor, housing a maritime police station, a small amphitheater, the Antalya Marine Biology Museum and the Antalya Toy Museum, is surrounded by city walls, some of which are still preserved. There are places to eat and drink around the harbor, where you can enjoy the unique sea view.
Under the buoy 1 km offshore the marina, there is the wreck of the French warship Saint Didier, also known as the ‘Society Wreck’. Sunk in 1942 during the war, the Saint Didier still continues to attract the attention of divers. You can visit this wreck by taking advantage of the opportunities offered by diving courses. However, since it is close to the mouth of the marina, it is recommended to be careful while diving as boat traffic is intense. Tour boats in the historical marina organize tours to Lower Düden Waterfall. You can take these fun tours to discover Antalya’s natural beauties, interesting cliff formations and breathe in the fresh sea air. You can explore Kaleiçi by walking along the narrow roads surrounding the harbor and take pleasant breaks in the numerous restaurants, cafes and bars in the vicinity.
