There are two different narrations about the origin of the name Konyaaltı. The first of these is that those who came to Antalya from Konya, a large city during the Ottoman period, used the expression Konyaaltı when they saw the beach, meaning that we went beneath Konya. The other is that since Antalya is located on the cliffs, the region was called ‘Koy Altı (Down the Bay)’ and this word turned into Konyaaltı over time.
Konyaaltı, with cooler and deeper waters compared to Lara, has a sandy beach covered mostly with pebbles, although some of it consists of fine sand.
