The Yivli Minaret, which is considered one of the most beautiful historical monuments of the city, has survived from the Alaaddin Mosque, which the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I converted from a church to a mosque in 1230. Located in Kalekapısı in Antalya city center and among the symbols of the city, the building stands out with its impressive architecture at first glance.
Yivli Minaret Mosque One of the first Islamic monuments in Antalya, the height of the minaret is 38 meters. The minaret, the main construction material of which is brick and Khorasan mortar, takes its name from its grooves. The base of the structure, which is accessed through a small door on the north side and climbed by a 90-step staircase, was built on block cut stones. The body is made of bricks and turquoise colored tiles. The thick body, which is designed in the form of eight half-cylindrical and sliced, takes on an elegant and aesthetic structure thanks to these grooves. The inscriptions Allah and Mohammed were written in turquoise and dark blue colored tiles all around the base. However, these inscriptions are almost completely destroyed today. Located to the west of the Yivli Minaret, the Yivli Minaret Mosque draws attention with its unique form in Anatolian Turkish Architecture. Built in 1372 by Balaban Tavşi, the mosque is considered the oldest surviving example of the multi-domed mosque type with its six hemispherical domes. Until 1972, it served as a museum with its courtyard. Along with the Yivli Minaret and Yivli Mosque, the complex, which is located on a terraced sloping terrain consisting of many Seljuk works, includes Yivli Minaret Bath, Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev Madrasah, Seljuk Madrasah, Mevlevihane, Zincirkıran Mehmed Bey Tomb and Nigar Hatun Tomb.
