Alanya Kızılkule Ethnography Museum, one of the most important buildings representing the architecture of the Seljuk Period, was built by the Seljuk ruler Alaeddin Keykubad I in 1226 by the architect named Abu Ali from Aleppo (Syria) in order to keep Alanya Port under control.
The majestic tower, which is the symbol of Alanya, is 29 meters in diameter and 33 meters high. A marvel of design with its color, plan and architectural features, the Red Tower got its name from the cut stones at the top and bottom. There is a 2-meter difference in elevation between the east and west facades due to the position of its base. It was built on an octagonal plan and has 5 floors. Although it has a simple exterior, it surprises those who see it with its complex interior structure. Each floor has a different plan and all of them are equipped with defensive observation battlements and open fronted visors. The section that rises from the center of the ground floor to the fifth floor serves as a water cistern and is the backbone of the tower.
Alanya Kızılkule Ethnography Museum underwent restoration in 1951-1953, and in 1979 the entrance and first floor of the tower was organized as the Ethnography Museum. In the museum, artifacts such as carpets, rugs, weaving looms, clothes, kitchen utensils, weapons, weighing instruments, lighting equipment, weaving loom and tents reflecting the Nomadic (Yörük) culture of the Taurus Mountains, which reveal the cultural values and lifestyle of Alanya, are exhibited.
