Turkey’s first Marine Biology Museum, established with the purpose of introducing the colorful underwater life of Turkey and the Mediterranean to the people of Antalya and tourists, to see the marine species under protection, to ensure that Turkey’s biological richness is understood by a wider audience and to adopt the marine culture, has been hosting visitors from all age groups in the two-storey old PTT building in Kaleiçi Marina since 2014.
The museum, which is situated on an area of about 100 m², exhibits about 500 species of sea creatures, including 9 species of sharks, 10 species of hammerhead sharks, about 150 species of bony fish, crustaceans, sponges, corals, shrimps, lobsters and crabs, squid, octopus and cuttlefish, starfish and sea urchins, all of which live in the seas of Turkey.
Antalya Marine Biology Museum, which invites visitors to witness the colorful and fascinating world under the seas with its extraordinary design, special lighting, creative decor and exotic atmosphere, where you will be abstracted from the present world, and which teaches and informs while entertaining, attracts the attention of children and school student groups in particular. In the museum, which increases the diversity of species day by day, information is given about endemic and Red Sea-origin sea creatures whose extinction is under protection. Many activities such as education, panels, workshops, interviews and exhibitions are carried out in order to keep marine culture alive, protect natural heritage and draw attention to climate change.
