Restore Strength Without Covering the Entire Tooth!
An Onlay is similar to an inlay but is designed to extend over one or more of the tooth’s cusps.
It can be a suitable option when a tooth has sustained more substantial damage but enough healthy tooth structure remains to allow a more conservative restoration than a full crown.
The restoration is custom-designed according to the shape of the tooth and the patient’s bite.
An onlay may be considered when:
- A large filling is no longer suitable
- A significant portion of the tooth has been damaged
- One or more cusps require protection
- The tooth needs additional structural support
- Preserving healthy natural tooth structure is possible
