Zeytintaşı Cave is located southeast of Gökçeler Quarter of Akbaş Village, 15 km north of Serik district, Antalya. Located on the southern slope of Zeytinlitaş Hill, the cave is 54 km from Antalya, 16 km from Serik and 10 km from Aspendos.
Zeytintaşı Cave, which was discovered by chance in 1997 through an artificial gallery opened for quarrying and declared a ‘Natural Monument’ in 2013, has been contributing greatly to the tourism potential of the region since its opening.
The karst cave, estimated to have formed in about a millîon years, is divided into many small halls and chambers by dripstone columns. The cave has a warm and humid atmosphere and is 14 meters deep.
Consisting of two interconnected floors, the upper floor of the cave is 136 meters long with its side passages and the lower floor is 97 meters long. The lower level of the cave is closed to visitors to protect it from destruction. Zeytintaşı Cave, a living cave, is covered with shapes such as travertine, soda sticks, popcorn, flowstone, flag travertine and helictics, which are still being formed. The ponds between the large columns make the appearance of the cave even more interesting.
Estimated to have formed in a millîon years, the cave draws attention with its spaghetti stalactites ranging from 5 cm to 70 cm in length in all sections. Continuing their development today, the hall where the pasta stalactites are located is called the ‘Spaghetti Hall’. Zeytintaşı Cave gains a special value with these unique characteristic formations that are not possible to be seen in every cave in Turkey. The ‘Chandelier Hall’, consisting of hundreds of delicate and crystalline stalactites, is breathtakingly beautiful.
With its fascinating atmosphere, jewel-like columns, stalactites, stalagmites and dripstones of all kinds, you can visit the cave with a guide and witness an unforgettable visual feast.
